RECAP: WEEKEND BELGIAN ACTION
Sacha Kljestan and Anderlecht pick up all the points, while Devann Yao and Boussu-Dour come away with nothing on the road in weekend Belgian action.
Anderlecht 3 - 0 Club Brugge
In a game where top of the league Anderlecht took on third place Club Brugge, it was the top team that came away with all the points thanks to goals from Dieumerci Mbokani, Milan Jovanovic and Matias Suarez.
American Sacha Kljestan started in his typical defensive midfield role and went the distance as Club Brugge were unable to penetrate les Mauves defense in Brussels on Sunday afternoon
It only took the home team three minutes to show Brugge that they were in for a rough day, when Suarez came up the right side of the field and centered to Mbokani who had no trouble beating Serbian keeper, Bojan Jorgačević between the sticks.
Twenty-one minutes later les Mauves had doubled their lead when the Congolese goal scorer turned provider and fed ex-Liverpool man Jovanovic who stormed into the box and beat Jorgačević, this time at the right post.
Mbokani did find the back of the net again after Jovanovic fed him the ball but his goal was in vain as he was judged to be offsides. The final goal on the night however did come 20 minutes after the start of the second half when Arsenal target Suarez found the back of the net for the eighth time this season. When the Argentinian was played just a short distance at the top right of the box, he beat his defender as well as the keeper, who came 18 yards off his line. Suarez slid the ball across the grass and into the goal.
The win extends Anderlecht's lead at the top with the three points and also because second place Gent fell to Lierse. With a four point lead after 20 games in the bag, Kljestan and company will head to Kortrijk on Saturday to take on the fourth place team.
Devann Yao came off the bench and won a penalty for Boussu-Dour that was converted but his team still fell 3-2 to Waasland-Beveren on Friday night.
Tristan Bowen came onto the field in the 79th minute and two minutes later found the back of the net as Roeselare came out 4-1 winners over Aalst.
