REAM RECEIVES WORK PERMIT
JAMIE HILL - Monday, January 23, 2012
New York Red Bulls defender Tim Ream has been granted a UK work permit, which should pave the way for the completion of his transfer to Bolton Wanderers.

"Tim has received approval for a work permit," Patrick McCabe, Ream's agent, told YA. "The transfer should be finalized in the next 24 hours."

When the deal is completed, Ream will join Stuart Holden at Bolton.

A work permit is required for all foreign players who do not have UK labor rights derived from various European treaties. Americans with sufficient national team appearances qualify automatically, but others, such as Ream, must rely on the appeals process.

While Americans have historically struggled with appeals, recent players have had more success, like Ream, Robbie Rogers, Alejandro Bedoya, Robbie Findley, and Brad Guzan.
