After being reduced to 10 men in the second half, Israeli league leaders tried to hang on to a slim lead but conceded a late equalizer to Maccabi Tel Aviv.

Los Angeles born Bryan Gerzicich started and played the full 90 for Kiryat Shmona in central midfield.

Most of the first half was an even game but Kiryat Shmona broke through in the 40th minute when Shlomi Azulay capitalized on a well executed counter attack to give the visitors a 1-0 lead.

In the second half Kiryat Shmona were reduced to 10 players in the 65th minute when David Solari picked up his second yellow card. The decision was met with great protest from the Kiryat Shmona players and coaching staff.

For the last 25 minutes, Kiryat Shmona tried to hang on to the lead. They nearly did but in the 89th minute Maccabi Tel Aviv found an equalizer when Barak Itzhaki pounced on a loose ball and fired it past Kiryat Shmona goalkeeper Danny Amos from close range to even the score at 1-1.

With the draw and Hapoel Tel Aviv's win, Kiryat Shmona's lead in the Israeli Premier League falls from 11 points to 10.

Next Sunday Kiryat Shmona return home for an important game against perennial powers Maccabi Haifa.
