RECAP: WEEKEND BELGIAN ACTION
Mix Diskerud makes his Gent debut while Sacha Kljestan and Anderlecht just cannot be beaten in weekend Belgian action.
Lokeren 1 - 1 Gent
Having signed on loan with Gent from Norwegian club Stabćk Fotball in January, Mix Diskerud made his debut and put in 75 minutes as Gent came from behind on the road to collect a vital point in their race to a Belgian League title.
The American midfielder was expected to make the bench but due to Gent's captain Bernd Thijs not recovering from his achilles injury as expected, Diskerud was given the nod.
Lokeren took the lead after just 22 minutes when Benjamin De Ceulaer scored his 10th goal of the season for the Tricolores from a very tight angle that was helped into the back of the net by the leg of Dutch goalkeeper Sergio Padt.
Ten minutes later the visitors tied things up thanks to their French defender Rémi Maréval. This first half goal was the final one of the game thus giving both teams a share of the spoils.
Gent had taken all three points earlier in the season, giving them four of a possible six over the Flemish team.
Next up for Diskerud and Gent, who are currently in third place, will be a home game against newcomers to the league, RAEC Mons. The Dragons brag the league's stop scorer in French attacker Jeremy Perbet.
Anderlecht 3 - 1 Westerlo
The Brussels based team continued their winning ways as they put three past Westerlo to pick up three points at home and maintain their top of the league spot.
Sacha Kljestan kept his central midfield spot but was given the last 11 minutes off when Anderlecht was up 2-0.
After a scoreless first half, Dieumerci Mbokani started things off in the 51st minute. The Congolese outran a pair of defenders and got his shot past Glenn Verbauwhede just inside the 18 yard box. Roland Juhasz made it 2-0 when the game clock struck 66 minutes by heading in a corner kick from ten yards out.
Kljestan was then replaced in the 79th minute and nine minutes later Felix Luz got one back for Westerlo from a cross that he nodded past Silvio Proto in les Mauves' goal.
Anderlecht kept their cool however and substitute Milan Jovanovic put the game to bed after Mbokani charged up the left side of the field, found Luis Suarez in the box, who found the Serbian. The ex-Liverpool man tucked it away from ten yards out.
The win keeps les Mauves in the top spot with just four more games to go before the end of the regular season and the beginning of the play-offs. Next up however, they'll have to get by a revitalized Lierse on Sunday night.
Boussu Dour came from behind to share the points with Charleroi in a 2-2 draw, however Devann Yao was not in the line-up as he continues to recover from a hamstring injury.
Tristan Bowen did not take part as Roeselare fell by a 2-1 scoreline to Royal Antwerp.
