YAO ENJOYING BELGIAN ADVENTURE
Devan Yao arrived in Belgium at the beginning of the season and has made an impact for his team Boussu-Dour in the Belgian Second Division.
"It's great to be a part of a team where I see myself growing into the best player that I can be," the New Yorker told YA. "They've given me the opportunity to start and to be a part of the team's success."
And the 21 year old former Ipswich Town man has been taking advantage of his opportunities as he has appeared in the majority of Boussu's games thus far this season. In the process he has scored three goals and also contributed with four assists, while winning a few penalties for the team. Unfortunately a slight injury has kept him out of a handful of games.
"It's a hamstring injury, but not very serious. I should be up and about in a couple of weeks."
The injury has kept Yao out of five games this season, but the medical staff is a bit more optimistic about his recovery time so he may even make the bench this weekend.
"Hopefully I will continue to contribute to the team's success and develop and gain more experience," he continued. "I'm enjoying my time here and the team has very good players. I'm learning a lot!"
With or without their American attacker, Boussu-Dour will take on sixth place Aalst at home on Sunday afternoon. The Walloon team is holding down the 12th spot and looking to climb the standings with 11 league games to play.
