RECAP: WEEKEND PORTUGUESE ACTION
Caleb Patterson-Sewell conceded twice but saved a point for Atlético in the dying moments against Naval.
Naval 2 - 2 Atlético CP
Atlético scored two second half goals, an offensive explosion for a team that has scored more than once only six times in 21 league games, and secured an impressive point on the road against third place Naval.
Patterson-Sewell once again manned the nets for fifth place Atlético, continuing his streak of playing every league game this season.
Giuliano opened the scoring for the hosts in the 15th minute off a Zé Rui cross, but two strikes within seven minutes of each other early in the second half gave Atlético the lead.
Laurindo used his speed to beat the defense in the 64th minute and a long distance Filipe Ferreira bomb followed in the 71st minute.
Unfortunately for the visitors Roberto leveled for Naval just four minutes later, knocking home a rebound that came off the bar.
Patterson-Sewell preserved Atlético's point in the 90th minute, producing the best save of the game to deny Bolívia.
Atlético's next game will be at home in Lisbon against an up and down Leixões team on Sunday.
Oguchi Onyewu's knee injury kept the physical center back out of Sporting's loss at Vitória de Setúbal. Bruno Amaro's goal stood up for the victory as Matias Fernandez missed a penalty for Sporting. The loss could drop the Lisbon club to fifth place, an embarrassing prospect for one Portugal's three "giants."
Tony Taylor also missed out on club action this week as he has been away with the US U-23s. Estoril tied Penafiel 1-1 in his absence, temporarily increasing their first place cushion to twelve points.
