PREVIEW: MIDWEEK ENGLISH ACTION
JOHN KRETLOW - Tuesday, March 13, 2012
Tim Howard and Everton look to jump Liverpool in the standings with a win in the Merseyside derby, while Jonathan Spector and Birmingham City hope to get back to winning ways against Leicester.

Liverpool - Everton

Tim Howard and Everton take on Liverpool in the 217th Merseyside derby.

Howard is expected to start for Everton at goalkeeper.

The Toffees go into the game on fire, as they are unbeaten in their last ten games in all competitions, most recently having beaten Tottenham this weekend by the score of 1-0.

Liverpool has lost their last three league games and would love to start their climb back up the rankings with a win over their bitter rival.

The game has added meaning as Liverpool is ahead of Everton in the standings by just two points, and a win by Moyes' men would give the squad a leg up in the race for Europa League qualifying.

David Moyes is celebrating ten years at the helm of Everton, and in his tenure he has never beaten Liverpool at Anfield. The Toffees will give it another shot on Tuesday.

Steven Gerrard is now healthy and will definitely be a boost for Liverpool, while Glen Johnson and Jamie Carragher are also clared to play after injuries had hobbled them previously.

Darron Gibson is the only scratch for Everton.

Leicester City - Birmingham City

Jonathan Spector and Birmingham City take on Liecester City in a pivotal Championship clash.

Spector is a regular starter for the Blues and is expected to start on Tuesday.

The Blues are winless in their last four games and have fallen out of a playoff spot. They trail Cardiff though just by one point for the sixth spot in the Championship. A win would definitely bolster Birmingham's promotion hopes.

Leicester is in 12th place and trails the Blues by eight points in the standings. They lost to Reading this last weekend.

Notes

Conor Doyle and Derby County take on Robbie Findley and Nottingham Forest in midweek action. Both Americans hope to see time for their respective teams.
