The United States U-23 team was dealt a significant setback on Sunday when key player Josh Gatt was forced to withdraw from the team after being recalled by his club, Molde FK.

Gatt, 20, emerged as an important player for Molde last season where he helped lead the team to their first ever Norwegian title. Due to recent injuries on the team, Molde head coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has asked Gatt to return to the team ahead of their season opener this Friday against Stromsgodset.

This is the second year in a row where Molde have prevented Gatt from participating in key international tournaments for the United States. Last year, Solskjaer denied Gatt's release for the US U-20 World Cup qualifying tournament and the US ended up failing to qualify.

US U-23 head coach Caleb Porter has until Tuesday to name a replacement for Gatt.
