US TO FACE MEXICO SOUTH OF BORDER
US Soccer today confirmed that the United States will take on arch rival Mexico in a friendly at Azetca Stadium in Mexico City on August 15.
It has been over two decades since the US played Mexico in a friendly in Mexico, marking this match as a new chapter in the famed bitter rivalry between the two teams.
The US team has never defeated Mexico in Mexico City and the closest they came was in 1997 when they played to a 0-0 draw in a World Cup qualifier.
This game is on a Wednesday and it falls on a FIFA international date. With games in Europe on the weekends both before and after the game, it is questionable how many top players will make the trip across the ocean for this friendly.
The last time the two teams played was last August in Jurgen Klinsmann's first game as US national team coach. In that game the US tied El Tri thanks to a second half goal from Robbie Rogers.
