RECAP: WEEKEND NORWEGIAN ACTION
Ricardo Clark, Sean Cunningham and Stabæk continued the momentum it created just before the summer break, while Sebastian Troupe and Bærum extended their losing streak.
Vålerenga IF 1 - 2 Stabæk IF
After not winning a game through its first 10 matches, Stabæk stretched its winning streak to two games after winning at Vålerenga.
Americans Ricardo Clark and Sean Cunningham started and played the entire game in central midfield and central defense for Stabæk. Clark recorded his fifth yellow card of the season in the 15th minute.
A rather dull affair in the first 30 minutes, Stabæk received a lot of help in the 33rd minute, when Vålerenga's Andreas Nordvik took down Stabæk's Franck Boli on the break. Nordvik received a red card, giving Stabæk a man advantage.
Although the first half ended scoreless, Stabæk broke through in the 50th minute. Vegar Eggen Hedenstad took a free kick from 44 yards out that sailed over his teammates and Vålerenga goalkeeper Lars Hirschfeld before going into the net.
After Hedenstad's goal, Stabæk searched for the game-clincher. In the 71st minute, the team found it. Hermann Stengel had acres of space on the right wing and passed to Christer Kleiven in the box, who, unmarked, beat Hirschfeld to the right side of the net.
Vålerenga got a consolation goal in the second minute of stoppage time. Håvard Nielsen found himself open and from seven yards out, beat goalkeeper Sayoba Mande to the near post.
Despite the win, Stabæk still occupies last place, although the team is now only four points behind 14th place Lillestrøm. Stabæk returns to action Saturday against Brann Bergen.
IL Hødd 2 - 0 Bærum SK
Bærum start to the 2012 season continued to be winless after losing to Hødd Sunday.
American Sebastian Troupe started and played the full 90 minutes at left back for Bærum.
Sivert Heltne Nilsen opened the scoring for Hødd in the 17th minute, meeting a corner with his head before putting into the back the net.
Hødd added another goal in the 25th minute. Erik Sandal found Vegard Heltne, who got around a defender and scored from 14 yards out.
Hødd cruised to victory after Heltne's goal.
With the loss, Bærum's losing streak extended to eight games, and the team sits in last place, six points behind 15th place Alta.
Bærum returns to action Saturday against Kongsvinger.
American Rhett Bernstein played the full 90 minutes, while Kyle Helton played the first 45 minutes for Mjøndalen in its 3-0 loss to Sandefjord.
