PREVIEW: WEEKEND MEXICAN ACTION
Herculez Gomez looks to continue the winning ways of Santos Laguna while Michael Orozco aims to build upon good performances as the third week of the Apertura swings into action.
Santos Laguna - Puebla
Herculez Gomez and DaMarcus Beasley both expect to start for their respective teams as Santos Laguna and Puebla square off in the third week of Liga MX Apertura action.
Santos is one of four teams in Liga MX who has won their first two matches of the season, while Puebla is one of five teams to have lost both of their opening games.
Gomez received a yellow card last week in their dramatic last minute 1-0 victory over Chivas, as they rose into a four way tie for the top of the standings in Mexico.
Gomez is riding a wave of success from the opening league matches and his two goals over the summer for the U.S. National Team, and he has a good opportunity to continue his streak of good performances as his team plays host to bottom feeding Puebla.
DaMarcus Beasley was back in the lineup last week after suffering a knock to his ankle in the opening league game two weeks ago. There is a thin separation to the relegation zone, and a good result against Santos will surely help the struggling Puebla side to remain in Mexico's top flight.
Puebla will be without Herminio Miranda due to red card suspension.
Tijuana - Pumas
Edgar Castillo and Joe Corona both look to start for Tijuana as they look to get back on track against Pumas at el Stadio Caliente.
After suffering an embarrassing defeat to Leon last week, the Xolos are attempting to regroup against Pumas who have been hot so far to start the season.
Greg Garza has been a regular starter for Tijuana in Copa MX play, and will try to bring his solid play from the cup into the league as he awaits a substitute opportunity.
Pumas has started off strong in this Apertura campaign, and a victory over Tijuana could move them to the top of the standings. Martin Bravo has three goals through two games, and a loose Tijuana defense could grant him more this week.
Tijuana will be without playmaker Fernando Arce due to red card suspension.
Morelia - San Luis
Michael Orozco scored his first Primera Division goal in two years last week in San Luis's loss to Cruz Azul.
Orozco will be starting again in center defense, and will try to build upon a positive performance last week to gain a result for the struggling San Luis side that is approaching a double digit record of consecutive games without a win, going back to last season.
San Luis has been improving in the Apertura when compared to the Clausura last season, but their streak of games without a win is leaving even their most die hard supporters with a tendril of doubt.
A win against Morelia would be a huge boost of confidence for San Luis, but it would definitely be a surprise result.
Both sides will have all players available for selection.
Jores Torres is out with a red card suspension for Pachuca's game against Queretaro.
Jonathan Bornstein is expected to dress, but not play for Tigres against Atlas.
Ventura Alvarado is not likely to dress for Club America against Atlante.
Alejandro Guido and Stevie Rodriguez will likely not dress for Tijuana against Pumas.
Marco Vidal may see action for Lobos BUAP against Dorados in second division play.
