PREVIEW: WEEKEND NORWEGIAN ACTION
Steve Clark and Hønefoss look to snap a two-game losing streak against Viking, while Kyle Helton and Mjøndalen continue to push for promotion against Ranheim.
Hønefoss BK - Viking Stavanger
Steve Clark and Hønefoss hope to end a four-game winless streak against Viking Sunday.
Clark should start at goalkeeper for Hønefoss, as he is one of only four Hønefoss players to start in all 21 games this season.
Hønefoss was sitting in fourth place before its recent struggles, falling to 10th place after two straight losses. The offense has been the problem all season, not scoring in the last two games and recording the third lowest goal total in the Tippeligaen (22).
The offense takes a huge hit going into the weekend, with leading scorer Riku Riski doubtful for the game. The Islander has scored nine goals for Hønefoss, while no other player has more than three goals.
It won't be easy for Hønefoss to bounce back against Viking. Since Kjell Jonevret took over as coach, Viking has not lost away from home, picking up two wins and two ties. That record has catapulted the team into eighth place.
Outside of Riski, Hønefoss is not reporting any injuries at this time. Viking also has no significant injuries.
Rosenborg Trondheim - Vålerenga Oslo
In this matchup of Americans that came in the transfer window, Mikkel Diskerud and Rosenborg host Chad Barrett and Vålerenga Sunday.
Diskerud and Barrett should start for their respective teams, as they have since moving to Rosenborg and Vålerenga in August.
Rosenborg has not lost a game since May 16 against Hønefoss, coincidentally, was the only loss for Rosenborg this season. Despite this fact, the team sits in third place, one point behind Strømsgodset and Molde.
Vålerenga has had very little consistency this season, using 30 different players in 21 games, and only goalkeeper Lars Hirschfeld has played in every single game this season. Though that is the case, Vålerenga sits in seventh place in the Norwegian top division.
As of now, neither team is reporting any injuries at this time.
Mjøndalen IF - Ranheim IL
Kyle Helton and Mjøndalen seek to continue their hot streak and push for promotion against Ranheim.
Helton should start somewhere in the back line for Mjøndalen, while fellow American defender Rhett Bernstein is questionable.
Mjøndalen is riding an 11-game unbeaten streak, which has seen the team rise to fourth place in the standings. The team is only two points behind Sarpsborg for the final automatic promotion place.
Ranheim is no slouch, however, and it could prove difficult for Mjøndalen to earn the three points. Ranheim sits in fifth place- five points behind Mjøndalen- and is looking to secure its standing for the promotion playoff.
Along with Bernstein, Thomas Finstad and Marius Lundemo are on the injury list for Mjøndalen with long-term injuries. Ranheim is not reporting any injuries at this time.
American winger Josh Gatt is questionable for Molde's game Saturday against Haugesund due to a hamstring injury.
American Under-20 defender Sean Cunningham could miss once again for Stabæk against Odd Grenland, as he continues to recover from a hip injury.
Defender Sebastian Troupe must sit out Bærum's game against Tromsdalen Sunday because of yellow card accumulation.
Villyan Bijev should make the bench for Start when the team travels to HamKam Sunday.
