PREVIEW: MIDWEEK DANISH CUP ACTION
Michael Parkhurst should return to Nordsjaelland's lineup for their Danish Cup match against Midtjylland while Conor O'Brien and SønderjyskE hope avoid a second straight knockout blow by Copenhagen.
FC Nordsjaelland - FC Midtjylland
After being given a rest in their Friday-night league win over Aalborg, Michael Parkhurst should be in Nordsjaelland's starting eleven on Wednesday night when they welcome old cup foes Midtjylland.
For a fourth straight season, these teams square off in the Danish Cup competition, and the Wolves will be desperately doing everything in their power to avoid a fourth consecutive elimination at the hands of their opponents.
The first two were certainly the most painful, both coming in the final, however last season's 1-0 win to Nordsjaelland at this stage undoubtedly had more of a sting than had it been to another opponent.
The odds would seem to currently favor the Wild Tigers, who have slowly crept to within shooting distance of a top-two place in the league, and are barely one week past a heroic performance in their 1-1 draw against Juventus in the Champions League.
Midtjylland have failed to win in their last four overall, most disturbingly having only struggled to draws against two of the poorest teams in the league in their last two outings.
Nordsjaelland are not reporting any missing players, while Midtjylland could continue to be without Martin Albrechtsen and Jannik Skov Hansen, both of whom missed last weekend's 1-1 draw with Brøndby.
SønderjyskE - FC Copenhagen
Conor O'Brien and SønderjyskE will try to keep their momentum running, but will have a tough task ahead as they must host reigning champions Copenhagen on Thursday.
SønderjyskE are on a bit of a roll right now, finally awakening from their two-plus month slumber to take two straight wins.
Granted, one of them did come at the expense of second-tier cellar dwellers Hjørring in a cup game, however a league win over a much-improved Esbjerg team did show some promise over the weekend.
Copenhagen's unexpected 1-0 loss at Horsens on Monday will also give O'Brien and his teammates some hope that they can defeat the reigning cup holders, and a heartbreaking semifinal loss from last season will be in the back their heads when the starting whistle blows.
For SønderjyskE, forwards Johan Absalonsen and Kenan Hajdarevic are both injured as is midfielder Hallgrimur Jonasson, while Copenhagen are not reporting any absences.
Charlie Davies will likely be on the Randers bench on Wednesday when they head to Vejle for their round of 16 cup matchup.
