PREVIEW: WEEKEND SPANISH ACTION
Carlos Bocanegra and Racing Santander visit red hot Girona on Saturday and attempt to continue their rise from the bottom of the Spanish Segunda División.
The Highlanders will face a tough test from third place Girona, who have not lost in six matches and have not been defeated at the Estadi Montilivi this season. Racing will hope to continue the momentum after a 2-1 home win against Alcorón over the weekend, which moved them into 16th position.
Bocanegra and his Racing teammates will have to slow down the prolific attack of the Catalonians, lead by their lanky striker Benjamín Martínez, who is tied for second in the league with six goals thus far.
Racing received good news as midfielder Marcos Gullón and defender Ruymán returned to training this week and may play this weekend. However, Gaizka Saizar injured a leg muscle in training and is questionable for the match. Girona could be without defender Miguel Gonzalez, who needed 11 stitches after a collision left him with a severe head wound during last week's match against Real Murcia.
Oguchi Onyewu and fifth place Málaga host Real Sociedad on Saturday. The Anchovies clinched a spot in the knockout round of Champions League play on Tuesday after a 1-1 draw at AC Milan, where Onyewu was an unused substitute against his former team.
