BOCANEGRA TO MISS SIX WEEKS
US captain Carlos Bocanegra is slated to miss up to six weeks after tests revealed that the veteran defender has a torn hamstring.
Bocanegra underwent a team-administered battery of tests on Friday morning and the diagnosis will have the American with a layoff that may last until 2013.
"After analyzing the ultrasound, Carlos Bocanegra has a Grade II tear in the hamstring of the left leg," a club statement released to YA by Racing's Enrique Palacio stated. "Doctors estimate that [Bocanegra] will need around six weeks off."
Bocanegra was injured in Krasnodar last Wednesday when the USA and Russia played to a 2-2 draw with the American forced to leave the match in the 18th minute.
In Bocanegra's absence, the long-time La Liga club will look to jump-start their campaign which sees the Highlanders perilously close to the drop zone, sitting in 17th and only two points from safety.
Racing Santander host Villarreal on Saturday.
