RECAP: WEEKEND DANISH ACTION
Conor O'Brien and SønderjyskE took care of business against Horsens, while Michael Parkhurst and Nordsjælland kept pace with Copenhagen with a win.
AC Horsens 1 - 3 SønderjyskE
Despite holding less possession than their opponents, Conor O'Brien and SønderjyskE made the most of their opportunities against Horsens in the win on Friday.
The American midfielder started and played the full match for SønderjyskE in the winning effort.
It didn't take the away team long to find the back of the net, scoring in the 10th minute. SønderjyskE's Daniel Christensen lobbed a pass over the backline to Tommy Bechmann, who tapped a shot under goalkeeper Frederik Rønnow.
SønderjyskE doubled its lead only three minutes later. Lasse Vibe came inside from the left wing and passed into the path of Eyjólfur Hédinsson, who slid in and scored into the open net.
The guests continued to press for another goal in the first half, but the game went into halftime at 2-0, although SønderjyskE had multiple goal-scoring opportunities.
The second half started in the same manner as the first ended, with SønderjyskE knocking on the door for another goal. The hosts, however, managed to score the first goal of the half. In the 70th minute, Martin Retov sent a cross right into a group of players, and Henrik Toft directed the ball with his head into the net.
Horsens had life again but only for a short while. In the 78th minute, Hédinsson loosed a pass behind the defenders to Bjørn Paulsen, who took a touch and beat the goalkeeper through his five-hole.
With the win, SønderjyskE jumped into eighth place with 20 points. The team returns to action on Wednesday against Brøndby.
FC Nordsjælland 3 - 0 Brøndby IF
Michael Parkhurst and Nordsjælland dominated Brøndby on Sunday, keeping pace with league leader Copenhagen in the process.
Parkhurst played the entire match at right back for Nordsjælland, picking up a yellow card in the 48th minute. Fellow American Clarence Goodson didn't dress for Brøndby.
Just three minutes into the match, Nordsjælland took the lead. A failed Brøndby clearance went straight to Anders Christiansen, who sent a low shot from the edge of the 18-yard box and into the left side of the net.
Though the team has struggled this year, Brøndby created a few chances on net, but the rest of the half passed with relatively little action.
In the second half, Nordsjælland pulled away, starting with Mikkel Beckmann's goal in the 54th minute. After receiving a pass from Christiansen, Beckmann created some space for himself and beat the goalkeeper from around the penalty spot.
From there, Nordsjælland kept control of the match, eventually adding another goal in the 90th minute. Mario Ticinovic took a shot from 26 yards away that rocketed into the back of the net and knocked off the snow from the netting.
With the win, Nordsjælland kept itself nine points behind Copenhagen, with those two teams facing off next Sunday.
Charlie Davies didn't dress for Randers in the team's 2-0 loss to Copenhagen on Sunday.
