RECAP: MIDWEEK ENGLISH ACTION
Geoff Cameron and Stoke City's notched a big victory over Liverpool, while Brad Guzan's Aston Villa lost big against Tottenham.
Stoke City 3 - 1 Liverpool
Geoff Cameron went the full 90 minutes at right back and received a yellow card in Stoke City's big Boxing Day victory over Liverpool.
The game started off on the wrong foot for the Potters, as Ryan Shawcross took down Luis Suarez in the box in the first minute of play and was called for the penalty. Steven Gerrard buried the ensuing penalty kick for the Reds.
In the fifth minute Stoke leveled the game as a long ball found Jonathan Walters who fired home.
The Potters took the lead not long after as Glenn Whelan's corner kick was headed into the back of the net by Kenwyne Jones in the 12th minute.
Stoke then notched a third goal in the 49th minute when a long throw in was flicked on by Jones and rocketed in by Walters for his second of the game.
The Potters take on Southampton this weekend and look to extend their nine-game unbeaten run.
Aston Villa 0 - 4 Tottenham Hotspur
Brad Guzan was the lone American on the field as Aston Villa suffered a second consecutive lopsided loss, this time at home to Tottenham.
Eric Lichaj dressed but did not feature for Villa, while Clint Dempsey was sidelined with a groin problem. Brad Freidel was on the Tottenham bench as Hugo Lloris' backup.
The 4-0 loss means Villa has given up 12 goals in their last two games.
After a scoreless first half, Spurs woke up with a passion notching four goals. Jermain Defoe started the scoring, followed by a Gareth Bale hat trick.
Villa takes on Wigan Athletic at home this weekend and hope to bounce back after a difficult two game spell.
Spurs have just lost one game in their last nine games and hope to extend that streak with a win against Sunderland on Saturday.
Everton 2 - 1 Wigan Athletic
Tim Howard played 90 minutes and recorded two saves in Everton's win over Wigan Athletic at Goodison Park.
After a scoreless first half, the Toffees nearly took the lead in the 48th minute when Thomas Hitzlsperger rocketed a shot from over thirty yards and hit the woodwork.
Everton though took the lead in the 52nd minute as Leon Osman found the back of the net with the help of a Gary Caldwell deflection.
In the 77th minute the Toffees doubled their lead when Phil Jagielka towered over his defender and headed home after receiving a cross from Phil Neville.
Arouna Kone got one back in the 82nd minute for the Latics, as he powered passed a pair of Everton defenders and muscled the ball passed Howard.
The Toffees look to improve upon their Europa League position and try to push into the Champions League spots with a win against Chelsea on Sunday.
Bolton Wanderers 0-1 Sheffield Wednesday
Tim Ream was back in the lineup in Bolton's Boxing Day loss to Sheffield Wednesday.
Wednesday opened the scoring in the 25th minute when Mamady Sidibe beat Ream to the ball and headed home after a Lewis Buxton pass.
Bolton has lost two straight and are seven points above the relegation zone. they take on Birmingham City this weekend.
Hull City 0 - 0 Leicester City
Zak Whitbread played the full 90 minutes and received a yellow card in Leicester City's draw with Hull City.
The game was even throughout between the promotion hopefuls, as the Foxes held an advantage in possession while Hull City got the better in shots.
Though the Foxes are still in a playoff position, they have gone down the standings after going winless in their last four games. They take on Burnley on Saturday.
Carlisle United 3 - 0 Hartlepool United
Frank Simek went the distance in Carlisle United's crucial win over Hartlepool United.
The opening goal came in the 21st minute when Sam Collins put the ball into his own netl, giving the Cumbrians the early lead.
Matthew Robson then doubled the lead in the 23rd minute and Lee Miller notched an insurance goal in the 73rd minute.
The Cumbrians are now five points above the relegation zone. They take on Bury this weekend.
Robbie Findley did not feature in Nottingham Forest's win over Leeds United.
Conor Doyle dressed but did not feature in Derby County's loss to Burnley.
Seb Hines did not play in Middlesbrough's victory over Blackburn.
Will Packwood and Jonathan Spector did not feature in Birmingham City's win over Barnsley.
Mike Grella dressed but did not play in Scunthorpe United's loss to Sheffield United.
Robbie Rogers did not dress in Stevenage's loss to Coventry City.
