KLINSMANN NAMES 24 FOR HONDURAS
BRIAN SCIARETTA - Monday, February 4, 2013
The United States national team is set to open their final round of World Cup qualifying on Wednesday against Honduras and Jurgen Klinsmann has finally names his 24 player roster.

The roster contains few surprises but also includes new faces that were not part of the team last year during the first phase of World Cup qualifying.

In central defense, Geoff Cameron and Carlos Bocanegra are the likely starts but Omar Gonzalez and Matt Besler have also earned a spot on the team after impressing in recent seasons in MLS. In the fullback positions, Steve Cherundolo is injured but he is likely to be replaced in the starting lineup by Timothy Chandler who could be cap-tied with an appearance on Wednesday.

In the midfield, Michael Bradley and Jermaine Jones are the most prominent players in central midfield but it is unclear who will start in the wide positions. Graham Zusi is the leading contender on the right side and on the left side Jose Torres could see minutes.

At forward, Clint Dempsey and Jozy Altidore are two of the U.S team's most recognizable players with Altidore in the midst of a breakout season with AZ Alkmaar in the Eredivisie.

The U.S team has struggled to get to this point and the team needed a win against Guatemala on the final game of the previous round to advance. Honduras, however, defeated Canada 8-1 in their last World Cup qualifier.
