Goalkeeper Adin Brown will be on the search for a new employer should he elect to continue playing after being released by Norwegian club Aalesund FK following the 2009 Eliteserien season.
Brown spent five injury-plagued seasons with the 2009 Norwegian Cup champions which limited him to just 69 appearances in goal. The 31 year old failed to make a single appearance during the 2009 season as a staph infection following heel surgery severely hindered his recuperation.
The latest lapse was one of the key reasons why the club said they made the decision to let go of the former New England Revolution netminder.
"Aalesund no longer plans to keep Adin on the team," confirmed team spokesman Henrik Hoff to YA. "The reason why we released him is because of his long injury time and we had to buy a new goalkeeper in 2009. The new goalkeeper is younger and a man for the future. Adin is not old, but [he is] over 30 so it was time for us to change."
What may have also factored in the club's decision was Brown's salary which was substantially higher than those of his goalkeeping counterparts at Aalesund. Norwegian law dictates that all personal salaries must be made public and the former William & Mary standout's 2008 earnings were $262,000 before income taxes making him one of the most highly paid goalkeepers in the Eliteserien.
Brown had also hinted during the 2009 season he would have to consider retiring from professional soccer should his heel not return to 100%. Now with the offseason in full swing, the California native told YA that he still remains undecided about his playing future.
"I'm kind of in limbo right now… [I'll] see in the next month how my foot feels," said Brown.
In 10 seasons of professional soccer, Brown appeared in 152 matches and scored one goal coming in 2007 with Aalesund. |
