FC SION DECISION ON ADU EXPECTED THURSDAY
David Smith - Thursday, July 29, 2010
Freddy Adu won't have to wait long to find out whether he will will be joining Swiss Super League team FC Sion, as the team confirmed that a decision will be reached after Thursday's training session.

The 21 year-old US international was deemed unwanted surplus by FC Aris head coach Héctor Cúper as the Greek team began its pre-season preparations, leaving the player in limbo since the loan agreement between the God of War and parent club Benfica extends through the end of the 2010-11 season.

Reports of a trial period at Swiss club FC Sion were confirmed by team officials in the local media on Wednesday, however with their season already underway, Adu has only been given a short time to convince the team to keep him on a longer-term basis.

"He has been here training for one day," Sion's sporting director Frédéric Chassot confirmed on Thursday morning. "He is training with the team this morning and we will make a decision after that."

Last season's fifth-place finisher in the Swiss Super League has already played two games in the current term - one win and one loss - and could press the former DC United phenom into quick action should they choose to add him to the roster.

"We don't know yet," Chassot remarked of whether Adu would return to Greece following the team's decision, concluding, "after today's training, we will decide what to do."

It just gets wilder and wilder with this guy...MLS, Portugal, France, Greece. How many teams altogether? Six? And counting??

I'm pretty sure that the American playing in China would welcome some english speaking players around.

So where are all the Bradley bashers claiming that Adu should have made the World Cup roster?

It really sounds like he could use a return to an academy for a year or two, and finish learning the game before returning to the pros. I don't know that he would start in MLS, since so many teams these days are benching pure attackers for more disciplined 2-way players. Something has to change though, constantly cycling through loans in Europe is no way to improve your game.

There is a reason that he hasn't found his way into a side and I doubt it has anything to do with skill, ability, or pace. I think freddy has read way to many of his press clippings. Prima donna would be my guess.

Adu just needs to return to the mls, and stop playing in Europe. I bet. His confidence is shot
